A Note on Living Gladly

The past several years have markedly been wrought with hardship for my little family, mixed in with incredible blessing. Alas, that is life. A heterogenous outpouring of good and bad; blessing and calamity.

One of the most profound blessings of the past several years has been God’s gift of grit. Early on in my “illness”, as I was crying out to God for deliverance and help and answers, I was prodded to read 2 Corinthians 12:7-10:

A thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited. Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more GLADLY of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. ESV

Paul’s pleading for healing was answered the way mine was. Essentially, “No”. In fact, Paul’s life and ministry as a christian was full of hardships. Yet he promised to boast GLADLY of his weaknesses and hardships, because he saw the full scope. Paul lived gladly despite shipwrecks and beatings and imprisonment. How? Because of God’s promises. God’s infinite grace is sufficient to ferry us through the deepest and tumultuous of waters. God’s power is demonstrated through hardship; his love abounds and reaches and redeems it. We can boast gladly of our hardships because through them the power of Jesus Christ rests upon us.

A new era for this blog: a whole hearted manifesto of a life full of grit, lived gladly no matter what we face. I can feel God moving in the hearts of the hurting, and know this will be a place for a community of grit no matter the circumstances.

Will you join me, Gladly?
