Jesus Healing The Deaf Man: The Greatest Wet Willy Ever

When Jesus was on earth, he changed peoples lives. Here is one such person, who received the greatest Wet Willie in the history of mankind:

Then he returned from the region of Tyre and went through Sidon to the Sea of Galilee, in the region of the Decapolis. And they brought to him a man who was deaf and had a speech impediment, and they begged him to lay his hand on him. And taking him aside from the crowd privately, he put his fingers into his ears, and after spitting touched his tongue.  And looking up to heaven, he sighed and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.” And his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly.  And Jesus charged them to tell no one. But the more he charged them, the more zealously they proclaimed it. And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, “He has done all things well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.” Mark 7:31-37

Can you imagine being an adult, and having never heard a sound? No rain drops on the river, no crickets, no loved ones voices? And then being completely healed with just a little spit in your ear?

What healing are you waiting on the Lord for? Maybe it’s something physical, maybe not. Maybe your relationship with a loved one is distant and hurting. Maybe you have the weight of the world on your shoulders. Maybe you feel alone and the darkness closing in.

Friend, I do not know when you will be healed, but you will. God fulfills his promises, and he has promised us that someday He will wipe every tear from our eyes. Maybe you will have to wait decades, like this man. Maybe it will be tomorrow. But pray without ceasing. Make your requests known to the Lord. Lean into Him.

For He has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; What can man do to me?” (Hebrews 13:5-6)

We can relax knowing He is our helper. There is no pain in this world that He cannot heal. And sometimes, the healing isn’t exactly the way we imagined (like a Wet Willie from God).

Lord, I pray for healing in all of us. I pray for our brothers and sisters across the world who are facing  a terrifying death for being faithful to you. Work in our hearts and lives. Create in us true hearts that adore and seek after your. Thank you for your promises. Thank you that you will never leave or forsake us. No matter if our healing comes in this life or after, I pray that you would strengthen all of us today.
